Isaac Feist of Nordenstadt Collection

The collection includes 45 documents (mostly business papers) in Yiddish or German of Jewish merchant Isaac Feist from the period between 1802 and 1832. Isaac Feist was the father of Mamel Feist who married Löb Bär, a Jew from Mosbach. Löb Bär was the father of the well-known bible scholar Seligman Bär who lived and worked in Wiesbaden-Biebrich.

The collection includes, but is not limited to:

  • Correspondence with business partners and relatives such as Wolf Isaac and Jeckel Nathan concerning their commercial activities (in Frankfurt/Main), as well as bills from Isaac Hirsch of Frankfurt/Main, among others;

  • Legal proceedings initiated by Isaac Feist concerning unpaid bills (1828);

  • Lists of purchases in Frankfurt/Main or “wares bought and received (such as fabrics, ribbons and threads) and lists of persons still owing him money.”
